It will also be important for you to be aware of the fact that registering for wedding presents should be done (in equal parts!) by both people, and this is important to realize, as it is one of the aspects that can cause more contention than just about anything else; if there will be items that both of you will likely be using, make sure the two of you are in agreement on what the particulars of these items will be - and while each of you will certainly have to compromise here and there, you should try to make as many decisions as possible together.

And finally, make sure you are not simply registering for things for the sake of registering for things, as there are many people who run out of things they actually want, and continue registering for items anyway. If all the items you have registered for have already been purchased by the time someone gets around to shopping for your present, they will be more than happy to give you money as a gift, instead of giving you an item - and as you will just be starting out on your new life with your spouse, money will always be a present that is well worth receiving!

There are a lot of things that go into the process of resolving conflicts, but when it comes to conflicts with extended family, these "lots of things" can grow to include even more elements; after all, conflicts with a close friend or family member must be resolved, or frustration and bitterness can end up festering until it compromises the relationship, but when it comes to extended family, there are plenty of times when it is best to simply leave the conflict alone.

One of the main things that can cause "conflicts that really don't matter" to still end up getting dragged on for ages is the fact that neither side particularly wants to be "wrong"; when you are dealing with a conflict with an extended family member, however - that is, someone you rarely see, and with whom you rarely interact - realize that it is often better to allow yourself to "be wrong," even if you know that you are honestly right.

On top of realizing that it is okay to "be wrong" when it comes to conflict with an extended member of your family, it will often also be important for you to be willing to simply drop it; it can be easy for unsolved conflicts to remain a factor because someone keeps bringing it up, but make sure you are not the one bringing up the conflict in the future - and if your counterpart brings it up, do your best to change the subject right away.

And finally, when you are dealing with an unsolved conflict with an extended family member, you have to be willing to move on; this means that you need to move on in your interactions with this person, as well as moving on in your head!

Dealing with conflict with anyone is never any fun - let alone when you are dealing with someone you see every once in a while, but do not see often enough for the conflict to "have to be resolved" - but when you take this approach to handling your conflict, you will have no problem moving on, without this conflict continuing to affect you!

To a lot of people, getting into the college of their choice is one of the most important things they could imagine, but even though a lot of people fret over whether or not they will get into this college that they so desperately want to be admitted to, many of these same people fail to realize that they have a lot of say in whether or not this particular school accepts them; while a lot of things go into "whether or not a particular school accepts a particular student," one of the most important things - and certainly the thing over which the student has the most direct control - is the application packet.

As you put together your application packet (or as you help your child put together their application packet), the first thing you will want to do is highlight your strengths; realize that each college has a certain number of spots they can award each year, and you will need to stand out from all the other students applying in order to be one of the students who is awarded one of these spots.

Not only will you want to highlight your strengths, but you will also want to highlight the things that the school itself is looking for when it comes to application packets - and of course, in order to do this, you will need to know exactly what it is that these schools are looking for. A lot of students have good grades (in fact, it is likely that far more students than you realize have good grades!), and if you are applying to a competitive, highly-ranked school, a lot of students will also have high test scores, but one thing that not all students will have, and that will set you apart from your competitors in the eyes of the school itself, is strong extracurricular activity; make sure you are involved in as much as you can be involved in outside of school, and highlight these things in your application packet, and you will make yourself far more appealing to the colleges you apply to.

And lastly, be aware of the fact that some students attempt to downplay their "weaknesses" (whether these weaknesses are subpar grades, poor test scores, or a lack of strong extracurricular activity), but rather than doing this, focus instead on turning these weaknesses into strengths - and you will move that much closer to admittance into the college of your choice!

Tips For Breaking In New Boots

If you recently purchased a new pair of cowboy boots or work boots, you might want to "get out there" right away - wearing them all the time - but before you do this, the first thing you will need to make sure you do is take the right steps to break in the boots. It might seem like a nuisance to try to break in your boots, but if you fail to do so, you could end up with some aching feet and some painful blisters, and it will make it worth your while to break in your boots so you can avoid these consequences!

Wearing your boots is actually the first part of breaking in your boots - and this even means that you can wear them "out" if you want to - but you should only wear them for short stretches early on. You can speed up the "breaking in" process by making an effort to walk over uneven terrain - even stepping up and down from curbs, or going out of your way to step on rocks - as this will go a long way in breaking in your boots.

After you have accomplished these steps, you will be able to start wearing your boots around whenever you like, wherever you go - knowing that the boots are broken in, and that they will feel good on your feet instead of giving you nasty aches and painful blisters!

The Art Of Short Story Writing

A lot of people find that they want to write a short story, even though they are not a "writer" or an "aspiring novelist." Many people find short stories to be therapeutic, fun, relaxing, enjoyable. Short story writing can be a productive use of your time, and it can be a very fun hobby. At the same time, however, it is not much fun to write short stories if no one will read them!

In modern American literature, few writers were as highly regarded as Kurt Vonnegut. From the late 1940s until his death in the late 2000s, Vonnegut wrote critically acclaimed and highly-regarded short stories, novels, and essays. At one point during Vonnegut's writing journey, he compiled his list of "rules" for short story writing. The next few paragraphs summarize these ideas.

Vonnegut began his rules focused on what you should do for the reader - firstly, that you should make sure the reader won't leave your story feeling like they wasted their time, and secondly that you should give the reader at least one character they can root for. Continuing with characters, Vonnegut says that every character should want something, even if it is only something small, and every sentence should either reveal something about a character or advance action. Vonnegut next encouraged writers to make awful things happen to their characters, no matter how sweet and kind these characters are. This allows the reader to see what the character is made of. He advises writers to start as close to the end as they possibly can, and to write to just please one person. To understand this last one, realize this: If you write to please one person, and that one person loves your story, then all others who have similar tastes to your "one person" will love it also.

Vonnegut's final piece of advice was to give the reader as much information as possible as quickly as possible. "To heck with suspense," was his thought on this final rule. He claimed that the reader should always have a complete understanding of what is going on.

Of course, Vonnegut admitted that you can break all of these rules and still create a terrific short story. But you could sure do a lot worse than Kurt Vonnegut if you are going to find a writer to take advice from for writing short stories.

And of course, realize that there is nothing that is "making you" put up with this boss; you can always look for another job – one where your boss treats you with respect.

When you take this approach to work – being polite without being a pushover, working to feel good about your performance instead of to impress your boss, and realizing that you can always look for another job – it will be much easier to be productive at work (and even to enjoy work!) in spite of having an abrasive boss.
